About Us
Know the Difference is a project from the Consumer Choice Center to raise awareness of harm reduction initiatives.
The Consumer Choice Center is an independent, non-partisan consumer advocacy group championing the benefits of freedom of choice, innovation, and abundance in everyday life.
We are a consumer advocacy group that champions smart policies that are fit for growth, promotes lifestyle choice, and embraces tech innovation for tens of thousands of our members and society-at-large, using research and educational outreach to policymakers and the broader public.
Regulators on local, national, and supranational levels keep regulating more and more areas of consumers’ lives. This leads to less consumer choice and makes products more expensive.
The CCC empowers consumers to raise their voice in media, the Internet, and on the streets and facilitates activism towards a more empowered consumer.
FAQ
The Consumer Choice Center was launched in February 2017 as a project of the pro-liberty organization, Students For Liberty. In 2020, the CCC later fully spun off and became an independent 501(c)(4) organization based in the United States.
The CCC works currently with tens of thousands of consumers and partner organizations in North America, Europe, South America, South Africa, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and many more.
We push for policies that are pro-growth, evidence-based, technology-neutral and hence advance more abundance of consumer goods on this planet.
From abundant energy to available to scalable food production to advances in healthcare, we closely monitor trends in consumer regulation and comment on these in traditional media, social media and engage with policymakers and regulators in order to warn how respective regulations can harm the choice of consumers.
We also actively invite consumers to submit issues to us. While we try to shed light on as many issues as possible, we usually pick select pressing issues, secure funding, and run larger awareness campaigns on these.
The main policy areas we focus on are Fit for Growth, Lifestyle Choice and Tech Innovation.
The CCC’s campaigns focus on 3 policy areas around the world: Fit for Growth, Lifestyle Choice, and Tech Innovation.
So far we have successfully campaigned for legalized cannabis across Canada and the United States, evidence-based policy making in Europe’s agriculture and food supply, protecting Diesel-owners of reactionary policies, the soda tax in Montréal, sugar taxes across Canada, a consumer-oriented energy policy in the European Union, Brand Freedom in the Republic of Georgia, tariffs in the United States, transparency in the European Union, allowing innovations in agriculture that would bring down food prices for consumers, and more.
A comprehensive list of campaigns by policy area can be found here: Fit for Growth, Lifestyle Choice, Tech innovation.
We are actively contributing to the debate through traditional media (opinion articles, radio, TV, and press releases), infographics and videos through our own social media channels, grassroots activism, organizing roundtable events, conducting consumer polls, and by testifying in committees of legislatures or workshops hosted by regulators, stakeholders, and partner organization.
We host a syndicated radio show known as Consumer Choice Radio and a European podcast called ConsEUmer.
